Tips to Wash Your Dirt Bike

1. Gently Remove Mud

If you are washing your dirt bike after a day out on a course, you're probably finding a lot of leftover mud on it. The first step is to remove this mud as best as you can. Do this gently with some warm water, a sponge and brushes. Avoid using a pressure washer recklessly, especially on rubber seals. A pressure washer may seem to be a quicker solution, but it can be too powerful for sensitive components on your dirt bike.

2. Remove Seat and Air Filter

Remove the seat and air filter on your dirt bike before getting deep into the cleaning process. The foam in a dirt bike seat can eventually break down if exposed to too much water. After removing the air filter, use a cover to protect the air intake from water exposure. While you are removing these parts, also take the time to plug up the exhaust pipe. Water damage to the exhaust can cause major issues.

3. Wash and Spray Every Part

At this point in the cleaning process, you need to get into every part of your dirt bike. Take certain areas slowly, including crevices. If you move too quickly, you can end up creating more work for yourself in the end. After washing each component, spray down each of the parts. The flywheel and coils need a non-chlorinated brake cleaner, but the rotors need a brake cleaner for the best results. 

4. Clean the Chain

The chain on a dirt bike is one of the most important and sensitive areas. You want to spend extra time on the chain. Use a mild solvent, then scrub the chain with a special brush to get rid of dirt and mud. Leave the chain to drip dry, but follow it up with chain lube or wax.
