While plenty of riders here in Southeast Texas may choose to ride their powersports vehicles all year round, it may not always be the most practical choice. We don’t have to worry about much heavy winter weather, but you may want to store your powersports vehicle for several weeks or months in the off-season. Here’s what to do to winterize your powersports vehicle properly.

Clean Your Vehicle

First of all, before you store your vehicle, you should make sure it’s really clean. After a full season of riding in mud, dirt, and sand, your powersports vehicle is probably pretty filthy and all that gunk can do real damage if it’s left to sit for months on end. Also, a clean powersports vehicle is much easier to maintain. Use a pressure washer to blast away mud from your vehicle and a car-wash soap and sponges or brushes to scrub all the nooks and crannies.

Lubricate Parts

Once your vehicle is clean and dry, it’s a good idea to reapply lubricant and grease to the various moving parts to keep them rust-free and functional. You’ll want to find an appropriate powersports lubricant that you can use to grease up sprockets, chains, cables, and lug nuts.

Check Oil & Fuel

The oil in your powersports vehicle probably needs a change after your season of riding, so make sure to put clean oil into it before you store it. Also, you may wish to add a fuel stabilizer to a clean tank of fuel to keep water from separating in storage.
