Your UTV Camping Guide
UTVs are extremely versatile vehicles and they lend themselves well to all kinds of outdoor adventures. One popular way of using a UTV is to go camping with it. Packing up your gear and driving out to your campsite in your UTV, then using it to go off-roading during the day is a great way to spend a relaxing weekend outdoors. You do need to do some planning ahead to make sure that your trip will be safe, though.
Cowboy Powersports is your Texas UTV dealer, located in Beaumont. Below, you’ll find some tips for planning your UTV camping trip so you can enjoy every minute of the experience.
Determine Your Destination
First, take the time to figure out where you want to go. You can choose to go camping in the wilderness if you want, at a state park or at a campground closer to home. Find a riding area, then figure out where camping spots might be nearby and reserve one in advance as soon as you can.
Check the Weather
Knowing what type of weather to expect can help you plan your trip. You should try to avoid going out if a heavy storm is on the forecast, since camping in a thunderstorm or during a tornado alert isn’t fun. If you discover that the weather for your trip won’t be very safe, you’ll probably need to delay it for safety.
Prepare Your UTV
You should conduct a thorough inspection of your UTV before taking it on an adventure since it’s going to be your primary form of transportation. Make sure that you have a full tank of gas, fresh oil, a functional battery, working lights/signals and aired-up tires. If you notice anything amiss on your UTV that you can’t address at home, schedule a maintenance appointment with the service department here at Cowboy Powersports.
Pack Supplies
You’ll want to pack up your UTV with necessary supplies to ensure your comfort during your trip. It’s smart to pack as lightly as possible, since your UTV is limited in how much it can carry. Backpacking gear is a popular choice since it’s compact and fits anywhere. You’ll need to have some form of shelter (usually a tent) with sleeping bags and pillows, sufficient clothing including rain gear, food, water, toiletries, medications and fire-building supplies.
In Case of Emergency
If you don’t intend to stay on a campground with lots of other people nearby, then it’s always a good idea to let someone back home know where you intend to go, how long you intend to be there and when to return when you’re venturing out into the wilderness. Having a point of contact to check in with every so often will help ensure the safety of you and your fellow campers. Provide location information and multiple contact resources so that your neighbor, friend or family member back home can alert rescue authorities if you don’t return.
You should also make sure to have some emergency supplies on hand, including a first-aid kit, an emergency hand-crank or battery-powered radio, a flashlight, signal flares, a rope and a hatchet.
