Now that spring has arrived, powersports enthusiasts everywhere are taking their UTVs out of storage and preparing for their upcoming off-road adventures. But before you take your UTV out to your favorite trail, you need to make sure that it’s ready for riding. Here are a few things you can do to prevent your UTV from breaking down on your first spring trip of the year.

Clean It Up

If your UTV still has mud or dirt on it, take the time to hose it off and scrub it down. Wipe down seats and the controls inside, and make sure the cargo bay is free of debris or any items you don’t need to carry.

Check Tires

Your UTV tires may not be evenly pressurized after sitting around for weeks or months. Use a tire pressure gauge to check each tire’s psi level and air them up according to the numbers on the sidewall. Also, make sure that your tires aren’t balding or worn down, and replace old tires before you ride your UTV.

Change Oil & Fluids

The fluids in your UTV’s engine may be old or sludgy after their time in storage, so spring is a great time to perform an oil change and to drain any old gasoline and replace it with clean, fresh fuel. You should also change out your oil and air filters and check on your coolant levels.
